The Greatest Common Divisor (also called Highest Common Factor / HCF) is the largest integer that divides both numbers evenly without a remainder.

Find the prime factors of both numbers. Multiply the common prime factors: 12 = 2 × 2 × 3 and 18 = 2 × 3 × 3. Common: 2 × 3 = 6.
