Improper to Mixed Number

The Method

Numerator ÷ Denominator = Whole Number + Remainder
Remainder becomes the new numerator over the same denominator

Divide numerator by denominator17 ÷ 5 = 3 remainder 2
Use long division if needed
2
The quotient is the whole partWhole = 3
How many complete wholes
3
The remainder is the new numerator3²⁄₅
Keep the same denominator

More Examples
