fractions
Improper to Mixed Number
The Method
Numerator ÷ Denominator = Whole Number + Remainder
Remainder becomes the new numerator over the same denominator
Example: Convert 17/5 to Mixed
1
Divide numerator by denominator
17 ÷ 5 = 3 remainder 2Use long division if needed
2
The quotient is the whole part
Whole = 3How many complete wholes
3
The remainder is the new numerator
3²⁄₅Keep the same denominator

💡When There's No Remainder
If the division is exact (no remainder), the result is just a whole number! For example, 12/4 = 3 (not a mixed number, just 3).
